The works are intended to modernise the interior of the Harvey Centre with improved lighting, redecoration, flooring and way-finding signage. The relocation of the escalator and improved WC’s will improve shopper circulation to the first floor. The announcement follows a number of significant retailer investments throughout the scheme. Primark, Wilkinson, Tesco, Poundland and Blue Inc. have all improved their presence by modernising and increasing the size of their units. Most notably, Primark is increasing its retail space by over 50% to 45,561sqft. Work started at the beginning of September to convert part of its first floor from storage to retail and to install a new customer lift. This work will be completed before Christmas and further improvements are planned for the New Year. Wilkinson and Tesco have also undergone extensive shop fits that have brought them into line with their latest concepts and Blue Inc. has taken a new, larger unit that has also been subject to a re-fit. All this activity demonstrates retailer and landlord confidence in Harlow and the Harvey Centre as they continue to perform well despite the uncertain economic outlook. Alex Wagstaff from Addington Capital said “We believe that the refurbishment will attract new retailers to Harlow and encourage even more existing retailers to invest in their shop fits. This continued confidence in the Harvey Centre from retailers is very encouraging and we aim to provide an excellent shopping facility that will benefit everyone.” |
