Students studying Travel & Tourism and Public Services are adopting a practical approach to their courses at Harlow College by opening a charity shop for two days on the second floor of the Harvey Shopping Centre in Harlow. The shop will be open on the 18th and 19th of March from 9.00am till 5.30pm.

The students have been collecting unwanted gifts, clothes, books, CDs, DVDs and other household goods in order to raise money for Charlotte Lynch, a local 11 year old whose family would benefit enormously from a special needs tricycle to help her in day to day life.

They have set themselves a target of £1000 and are hoping to call on the good will of Harlow’s shoppers to do the best they can to help. Not only are they collecting goods like mad but will also be exercising their customer service skills by advising customers on just what to buy!  However they need the public’s help before the shop opens!

Harlow College Principal, Colin Hindmarch said, “The college is very grateful to the Harvey Centre for its support in an initiative that is not only very important for Charlotte but is of real importance to the Travel and Public Service students”.

If members of the public have any unwanted goods that they would like to donate to a worthy cause, the students are appealing for them to bag up donations and get down to the Main Reception of Harlow College where they can leave them for students to take to the shop.  Unfortunately, they are unable to accept electrical goods or unwanted alcoholic gifts.

Bryan Young, Centre Manager of the Harvey Centre said, “We are looking forward to welcoming the Harlow College students back to the Centre this year as they once again seek to raise funds for a well-deserving local cause.

“We thoroughly enjoyed last year’s ‘Harlow to Venice’ cycle trip and are excited that the students have taken up a different challenge this year.  It is crucial that we support them in both their efforts to raise funds for Charlotte Lynch and their studies at the college.  It is to their credit that they have been able to come up with a fundraising event which will have a beneficial effect on their education and which will materially improve Charlotte’s quality of life and support her family.”
